Rectorrhagia

« Back to Glossary Index

Rectorrhagia is moderate to heavy bleeding from the anus, originating from the rectum. It can be identified by the appearance of bright red, undigested blood. In the context of endometriosis, it may indicate a digestive disorder, although this only accounts for 10% of lower digestive disorders. Rectal bleeding can also be explained by haemorrhoids, anal fissures, benign or malignant tumours.
