Oestrogen

Oestrogen is a group of steroid hormones. It is one of the female sex hormones. It is produced mainly by the ovaries and placenta, but is also secreted by other organs such as the adrenal glands or breasts. There are three types of oestrogen: oestradiol, oestriol and oestrone. Oestrogen plays a role in the development of secondary sexual characteristics at puberty and continues until the menopause, when its levels decrease. It plays a role in preparing the uterus for pregnancy.
