Corpus luteum

« Back to Glossary Index

Corpus luteum is the name given to the follicle after (ovulation) during the (luteal phase). Under the influence of hormones – (LH) – it becomes a gland that secretes progesterone and oestrogen in preparation for a pregnancy. This corpus luteum will disappear around the 4th month of pregnancy. If there has been no fertilisation, it will degenerate and stop producing hormones.
